Roofing in Morrisville

Morrisville’s houses and their roofs.

This borough grew up around a Delaware River ferry known as Colvin's Ferry, took Robert Morris's name when it incorporated in 1804, and saw its first bridge across the river open in 1806. Summerseat, a National Historic Landmark, and the Gershom Craft House both stand here.

The housing tells two stories. Thirty percent of the borough's 4,162 homes were built before 1940 and another 29 percent in the 1950s, the decade the Fairless Works opened nearby. The borough's own 1982 plan described single-family, semi-detached and row houses alongside apartments, and that mix still holds.

Fewer than one home in nine is newer than 1980, so most roofs here are replacements sitting on old framing. We serve the borough from Newtown, and on houses this age we don't quote until we've seen the attic.

Know the house

Roofs you’ll find around Morrisville.

  • Prewar borough houses

Built before 1940, often two stories with steep gables and brick chimneys. Several roofs in, they tend to have uneven decks and chimney flashing that deserves a hard look.

  • Semi-detached and row houses

Twins and rows share roof lines with the neighbors. We flash the party wall properly and photograph the tie-in, so your new roof and the one next door stay separate problems.

  • 1950s and 1960s singles

The postwar expansion, now around seventy years old. Simple roofs, usually re-roofed more than once, where the decking at the eaves and the pipe boots are the usual suspects.

Behind the levee: water, wind and winter

The levee along the river, finished in 1939, held in the 1955 flood. The floods of 2004, 2005 and 2006 still did significant damage, coming not over the riverbank but through the Delaware Canal. None of that is roof damage, yet it explains why so many households keep belongings in the attic, where a small roof leak does the most harm.

Overhead, the threats are the usual lower Bucks ones: spring squall lines like the April 2023 storm that dropped trees along Route 1 near the borough, nor'easter wind, and freeze-thaw at old chimneys.

“I called Dave, after being referred by a colleague. I had some birds trying to nest behind five pond molding under my gutter. Dave came out right away and fixed the problem. I would recommend Dave to anyone looking for repairs or replacement. He is very fair, responsive and helpful.”

My 19067 address could be Morrisville, Yardley or Falls. Does it matter for the roof?

For the permit, yes. The 19067 ZIP covers the borough plus parts of Lower Makefield and Falls Township, and each one issues its own permits. We confirm which municipality your house is actually in and pull what that office requires.

Should I tell my neighbor before re-roofing my half of a twin?

We'd recommend it. The crew will be working right at the shared ridge and party wall, and a heads-up keeps things friendly. We seal the tie-in so water can't travel between the two roofs and photograph it for both of you.

What happens to the brick chimney on my prewar house during a new roof?

We inspect its flashing, cap and mortar at the roof line, then install new flashing during the re-roof rather than reusing the old. If the masonry itself is failing, the photos will show it and we'll tell you before the shingles go on.

How soon can you get to Morrisville for a leak?

Estimates are booked within a few days, usually sooner. For an active leak, call; nights and weekends are fine for emergencies, and we stop the water first, then fix it properly.
