Roofing in Huntingdon Valley

Huntingdon Valley’s houses and their roofs.

The old village sits along Huntingdon Pike, where mills once ran on the Pennypack Creek; Fetter's Mill and its little historic district are still there. The land around it stayed largely rural into the second half of the 20th century. Today the 19006 address covers most of Lower Moreland Township plus pieces of Abington and Upper Moreland, and Lower Moreland itself only took its current shape when Moreland Township was split in 1916.

Census estimates for Lower Moreland count about 4,840 homes. The 1950s and 1960s together account for 45 percent, the 1970s another 17 percent, and only about one home in twelve predates 1940. Houses built from 2000 on add up to roughly a sixth of the township's homes.

Houses from those decades are on their third roof or close to it. Our inspection is free, starts in the attic, and comes with photos and a straight answer.

Know the house

Roofs you’ll find around Huntingdon Valley.

  • 1950s and 1960s single-family houses

The core of the township's housing, now 55 to 75 years old. Brick chimneys, original decking under later layers and attic ventilation that was never upgraded are what we most often find.

  • Homes on wooded lots near the Pennypack

Big trees mean shade, wet leaves in the valleys and limbs over the roof. North slopes grow moss and stay damp, which shortens shingle life faster than sun-facing slopes.

  • 1970s houses

About one in six homes here. Many have had one replacement already, and a second one is the time to fix ventilation and flashing properly rather than layering over.

  • Infill from the 2000s and 2010s

Houses built in the last two decades are approaching the age when a free inspection makes more sense than waiting for a leak.

Woods, creek valley and leaf-filled gutters

Lower Moreland borders Lorimer Park, 213 acres of woods along the Pennypack, and the township counts some 1,500 acres of preserved meadow and woodland nearby. That green is the reason many people live here, and it is also why gutters overflow every fall and valleys stay packed with wet leaves.

In freeze-thaw winters, clogged gutters let ice build at the eaves of older houses, and water backs up under the bottom courses of shingles. We install ice and water shield along the eaves and valleys on every replacement, and our free inspection photographs those trouble spots on older roofs.

“Dave and his team were excellent. my roof was damaged by a hail storm in April 2023 After another contractor walked away from the job, Dave stepped in and worked with the insurance adjuster and was able to get my roof replaced. They did great work and delivered everything on time and as promised. I would definitely recommend Mission Roofing.”

Do I need a permit to re-roof in Huntingdon Valley?

It depends on the township. Lower Moreland's building department lists re-shingling a roof among jobs that don't need a permit, and says to call its code office if you're unsure. Abington and Upper Moreland both require permits for roof work. We confirm which township you're in and pull any permit that applies.

How do I know which township my 19006 house is in?

Your tax bill or deed names it, and the township's own map will too. Most 19006 homes are in Lower Moreland, but parts of the ZIP fall in two neighboring townships, and we check before we quote.

A big oak hangs over my roof. Is that a problem?

It means more debris in the valleys and gutters, slower drying and a risk of limb damage in storms. Our inspection photographs those areas, and we repair what the debris has worked loose.

Which warranties come with a Mission Roof replacement?

Our 10-year workmanship warranty plus the manufacturer's lifetime limited material warranty, registered in your name.
