Roofing in Feasterville-Trevose

Feasterville-Trevose’s houses and their roofs.

Feasterville and Trevose stayed farm country until the early 1900s. The railroad arrived in the 1870s, but real growth started in the 1920s, and after that the area filled in as a Philadelphia suburb. Both sit mostly in Lower Southampton Township, though Trevose spills over into Bensalem, and ZIP 19053 covers them both.

The township's biggest building decade was the 1950s, a quarter of its 8,202 homes, followed by steady building through the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Nearly three in four homes are single detached houses, and in the Feasterville census area almost nothing was built after 2000.

That adds up to a lot of roofs on houses between 45 and 75 years old, most on their second or third covering. We come over from Newtown to look at them, and sometimes the honest answer is a repair.

Know the house

Roofs you’ll find around Feasterville-Trevose.

  • 1950s houses

The first big wave. Seventy-year-old framing under a roof that has been replaced more than once, so we check the eaves for rot and the attic for old leak stains before anyone talks price.

  • 1960s and 1970s singles

The middle of the boom and much of Trevose. Many are wearing a roof from the 1990s or 2000s that is near its end, and a properly vented ridge is often the upgrade that matters most.

  • Twins and townhouses

Less common here than in towns nearby, about one home in twelve. The shared-roof questions are the same: who owns which section, and how the new roof ties into the old one next door.

The tornado of July 29, 2021

The strongest tornado in the county's records came through on July 29, 2021: an EF3 with winds to 140 mph on a 3.4-mile track that did its worst damage in Trevose and Bensalem. Commercial buildings lost roofs and walls, a mobile home park was hit hard, and trees, fences and power lines came down along the way.

Nor'easters are the steadier threat. Ice storms and snowfalls of a foot or more arrive every few years, mostly December through February, and that is when old flashing and clogged gutters give way.

“David and his crew were great from start to finish. They were able to provide a quote that explained in full detail all the work that would be completed. For me I needed replacment of a 40 square roof and new gutters with leaf guards. They were the best price around. I had quotes that were three times the cost. It's crazy out there and i always shop around. They were able to complete the entire roof in a day. The crew was able to protect all growth around my house and clean to a point where you would never know they were there. Everything was install great with no issues and I would recommend Mission Roof to anyone.”

Which township handles the permit for my house in Trevose?

It depends which side of the line you're on. Most of Feasterville-Trevose is in one township, but part of Trevose belongs to its southern neighbor, and the 19053 ZIP won't tell you which. We confirm from your tax bill and pull permits from the right office.

My roof looked fine after the 2021 tornado. Could it still be damaged?

It's possible. High wind can break the seal strips that hold shingles down without tearing any off, and those shingles lift and leak later. An inspection shows whether the tabs are still bonded, with photos.

I was told I need a full replacement. Will you give a second opinion?

Yes, at no charge. We go through the attic and the roof, compare what we find with the quote you have, and tell you plainly if a repair or partial replacement would do. If the quote is right, we'll say that too.

How do you protect my yard during a tear-off?

Tarps go over shrubs, the AC unit and any patio before the first shingle comes off. The crew runs a magnetic sweeper for nails during the day and again at the end, and the dumpster is usually gone within one to three days.
